Ransomware is On an Unfortunate Trajectory

Ransomware is On an Unfortunate Trajectory

Ransomware is a real problem; I mean, a real problem. Not only does it create serious problems for any organization that is victimized by it, it is about to be a completely pervasive problem for everyone. It is extremely important for your organization to take the threat of ransomware seriously by implementing a strategy to keep it from being an issue. Today, we offer a three-pronged approach to doing just that.

Get on Top of Your Backups

Regularly back up your important data and ensure that the backups are stored in an isolated environment. This can include cloud storage or offline backups. Try to automate backup processes whenever possible to ensure their continued consistency and reliability. You’ll also want to test your backup and recovery processes periodically to make sure you can restore your data quickly and effectively.

Employee Training and Awareness

The most important thing is to have a plan to educate your employees about the risks of phishing emails and social engineering tactics commonly used by cybercriminals to break into your network. You’ll have to train employees to recognize suspicious emails, links, and attachments, while encouraging them to verify the legitimacy of unexpected emails before clicking on links or downloading attachments.

By building a culture of cybersecurity awareness within your organization and regularly testing your employees’ retention of that information, you can go a long way toward building a strong organizational cybersecurity profile.

Use Robust Security Software

When we say “Robust security” we mean services that employ strong antivirus and anti-malware software to detect and block ransomware threats. Ensure that the software is updated regularly to defend against new and emerging threats.

One tool that is important to note here is the firewall. By implementing a robust firewall to monitor and control incoming and outgoing network traffic you can work to prevent unauthorized access and the spread of malware within your network. You’ll also need to keep all software, including operating systems and applications, up to date with the latest security patches. Regular updates help close vulnerabilities that could be exploited by ransomware attackers.

It’s important to remember that cybersecurity is an ongoing process, and staying vigilant is crucial to protect against evolving threats. Ransomware can come in a lot of forms which is why it is important to do what you can to avoid them entirely.
